HERMITOLOGY

My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.

This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, the interwebs and whatever else I deem worthy of sharing.

In addition to my ramblings here, I'm also the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed podcast and blog with my good friend Ian, called Productive Outs.

I also have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions presented on this blog are mine and mine only, and do not reflect the position or views of Thrice as a whole.

Random Start: Refused, “Refused Are Fucking Dead”

I remember buying this as a blind purchase back when it came out 1998 because it was a part of an Epitaph Records endcap and I loved most things Epitaph at the time. I hadn’t heard a single note of Refused prior, and proceeded to have my mind throughly blown on the drive home from the record store. It’s been one of my favorite records ever since, and is far and away the best blind purchase I’ve ever made. David Sandstrom is an absolute beast behind the kit and a huge inspiration. It’s been said thousands of times over the past decade-plus, but this record is incredible and was a game-changer as far as punk and hardcore are concerned.
