HERMITOLOGY



My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.

This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, interwebbery, and whatever else I feel like sharing. I apologize in advance.

In addition to my ramblings here, I write a piece for OC Weekly called "3hree Things" that runs every Tuesday, and I'm also writing over at Flip Collective on occasion.

I'm the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my friend Ian, called Productive Outs.

And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

SHORTFORM RAMBLING

I’ve been a big fan of Jack Conte for a while now (after stumbling across his music/videosongs via the tangled webs of myspace and/or YouTube.)

This is just one of many songs that he’s made available online.

I put together a playlist for Myspace Music, ages ago, that was never posted, and had written up a nice piece about him that I can’t track down at the moment. The basic gist of the capsule was that I really admire the way that he, as an unsigned artist, goes about providing content on a consistent basis, while charging a reasonable fee, keeps the entire operation in-house, and is essentially building a virtual fan base in a highly interactive way (as opposed to the bullshit spamming and play count boosters that other bands/acts have used) that will support him when and if he has the time/desire to tour extensively.

Bottom line: I think Jack is a guy that is embracing and utilizing new media in many of the best ways possible, I enjoy his music, and wanted to share it with you (if you hadn’t heard it already.)
