My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.
This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, interwebbery, and whatever else I feel like sharing. I apologize in advance.
In addition to my ramblings here, I write a piece for OC Weekly called "3hree Things" that runs every Tuesday, and I'm also writing over at Flip Collective on occasion.
I'm the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my friend Ian, called Productive Outs.
And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

Thrice - ‘Where Idols Once Stood’
OK. A couple things.
1. I’m heading to a punk rock show in North Beach right now. Weird, I know. I don’t even know what band I’m going to see. It could be The Lonely Kings but I’m not entirely sure.
2. I just realized the drummer for Thrice has been following this tumblr for a bit. Have you listened to this song yet!? Gimme a fucking break on those drums, dude. Unreal. He’s like the Gene Krupa of punk rock drumming. I got to see Thrice only once, unfortunately. I saw them with The Get Up Kids and Dashboard Confessional, believe it or not. Unfortunately I missed them when they played with my favorite band evar, Hot Water Music, on halloween in Portland (at which Hot Water Music played the entirety of their set in diapers).
That’s about it. Kudos dude, I dig your jams and I hope to see you guys again. Your records have provided many a great memory.
re: #2: Bah. This record, while bringing back some amazing memories, makes me cringe now. Not so much in the individual parts and the impetus behind those parts, but in the tones captured (snare drum, especially), tempo issues (mine, especially), songwriting, and the fact that it’s a fairly accurate snapshot of where our brains were eight years ago. It’s like looking at a high school yearbook photo. There’s reverence there, but there’s also a decent amount of embarrassment.
If you can make it to Eugene in May, we can put an end the hiatus you’ve taken from live Thrice shows. I remember the Halloween show with Hot Water, Coheed & Cambria, and Curl Up & Die (Hello, Minnick!) in Portland, fondly.
Those were the days.
