My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.
This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, interwebbery, and whatever else I feel like sharing. I apologize in advance.
In addition to my ramblings here, I write a piece for OC Weekly called "3hree Things" that runs every Tuesday, and I'm also writing over at Flip Collective on occasion.
I'm the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my friend Ian, called Productive Outs.
And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

Random Start: Atlas Sound, “Shelia”
Some godawful NASCAR-themed contemporary country pop would be more apropos for a day off in Daytona Beach, but I’ll gladly take the infectious low-fi of Bradford Cox’s (Deerhunter) side project, Atlas Sound.
Buy Logos here.
Random Start: Atlas Sound, “Cold As Ice”
While the title “Cold As Ice” seems fitting since several “cold as ice” Busch Lights* consumed by me and my friend, Paul Shirley, during our live-blog of last night’s horrible NBA games on TNT, the song itself is not so fitting (because of the headache I’ve got from said Busch Lights).
Buy Atlas Sound’s Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel, here.
*We knew they were ice cold, because Busch Light has effectively ripped off Coors Light with their Ice Cold Easy indicator thermometer on their cans. Thanks, Busch! We were lost without you.
My lady actually turned me onto Atlas Sound in the middle of last year by leaving a burned CD of Let The Blind Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel in my car. The CD stayed there, played quietly in the background every time I drove for a few weeks, and slowly but surely, I was hooked. In October of last year, I bought Logos (which I enjoyed enough in a month and a half to include it in my Top 14 Of 2009.) It’s not the type of music that demands attentive listening, but it’s infectious, slightly haunting, mildly chaotic, detailed enough to make every listen seem unique, and the perfect music to listen to while you’re doing something else (The lady loves to paint to it. I’ll throw it on while I’m restringing a guitar, reading, or cleaning the apartment.) I can’t even really put my finger on how or why it moves me (which I think is kind of a good thing) but I find myself going back both records and the Another Bedroom EP over and over. If the clip above doesn’t get you, give this track a listen and I think you’ll get got.
