HERMITOLOGY

My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.

This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, interwebbery, and whatever else I feel like sharing. I apologize in advance.

In addition to my ramblings here, I write a piece for OC Weekly called "3hree Things" that runs every Tuesday, and I'm also writing over at Flip Collective on occasion.

I'm the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my friend Ian, called Productive Outs.

And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

Disclaimer: The views and opinions presented on this blog are mine, and do not reflect the position or views of the band as a whole.

No big deal. All I need is 500 yards and six touchdowns from Maurice Jones-Drew.

(Due to injuries, and a bad trade, this is the worst Fantasy Football team I’ve ever fielded.)

ATTN FANTASY FOOTBALL DORKS: It’s That Time Of Year Again

After the overwhelming moderate success of last year’s Hermitology Fantasy Football League, I’ve decided to do it again this year. I’ll be setting up a Yahoo! league for readers of the blog and/or people that follow me on Twitter. It’ll be a 12-team, head-to-head league. We’ll do a live online draft (WE’LL DO IT LIVE!!!) on Thursday, September 1st at 7PM PDT. If you can’t make the draft, DO NOT sign up for the league. There’s no buy-in, so there’s no prize money, but I’ll make another uber-dorky one-of-a-kind t-shirt for the winner of this year’s league.

Defending champion, Jesse Richman, is automatically in should he choose to defend his crown. For the rest of you, I’ll send out a tweet at some point tomorrow morning between 9-9:30AM PT, re: Fantasy Football- and the first 10 or 11 people to @ reply with “I’m in” will be added to the league. Easy enough, right?

All Hail, The King Of Dorks!

Congratulations to Jesse Richman (aka @xopchipili) for winning the first-ever Hermitology Fantasy Football championship. His prize package (a one-of-a-kind championship t-shirt, and tickets and passes to the next Thrice show in NYC) is en route. You can check out Jesse’s music blog here.

Throwing together a fantasy football league for interested readers ended up working out OK, aside from my team finishing eighth out of 12 teams. We’ll have to do it again next year. Thanks to everyone who participated.

So, does this mean I *owe* points?

And I thought I had no chance in Fantasy Football this week.

That’s not a typo is it?

The Steaming Shit Heaps That Are My Fantasy Football Teams

I’m not even going to bother explaining each pick or waiver move I’ve made, but here’s the gist of the situation…

I have two teams and my drafts happened simultaneously. (If you ever want to tie your brain in a meaningless knot, please try this some time. “Wait…who did I draft? For which team? Why does everyone have a bye week in Week 8? Did I really just draft Reggie Bush?”)

I studied for (maybe) two hours before the drafts, and CLEARLY will be ready for Fantasy Baseball by mid-November. Whoops.

Goodbye $100, and whatever fantasy-sports-geek-pride I had.

The response to the Yahoo head-to-head league was pretty overwhelming. So much so, that I felt kinda bad that so many people got left out. So, for those of you that didn’t get a DM about the Yahoo league (and even those of you that did, but can’t get enough football-related dorkery) I just started an ESPN Pick ‘Em league that is open to anyone and everyone who’s interested (even those of you that aren’t that into football—you just pick as many winners of as many games as you can.) It’s not a money league. It’s just for fun and uberdork bragging rights (and perhaps a tee shirt or gift certificate of some sort.)

Sign up here.

Good luck.

Any Interest In A Trawling The Grey Matter Fantasy Football League?

If so, I’ll set up a Yahoo! league for readers of the blog and/or people that follow me on Twitter. Ideally, it’ll be a 12-team, head-to-head league. We’ll do a live online draft (WE’LL DO IT LIVE!!!) on September 7th at 8PM EDT. (If you can’t make the draft, you’re out. Sorry.) There’s no buy-in, so there’s no prize money, but I’ll put together some sort of prize package for the winner once the season’s over.

I’ll send out a tweet at some point tomorrow, re: Fantasy Football- and the first 11 people to @ reply with “I’m in” will be added to the league. Easy enough, right?
