My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.
This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, interwebbery, and whatever else I feel like sharing. I apologize in advance.
In addition to my ramblings here, I write a piece for OC Weekly called "3hree Things" that runs every Tuesday, and I'm also writing over at Flip Collective on occasion.
I'm the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my friend Ian, called Productive Outs.
And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

Random Start: Ludovico Einaudi, “Nightbook”
This is the title track from the Italian composer/pianist’s most recent album. I’m a big fan of the work of Philip Glass, Michael Andrews and Chopin, and (while I admittedly don’t know shit about classical piano or musical theory) Einaudi’s work appeals to me as sort of a blend of those three composers. It’s just beautiful stuff.
Buy Nightbook here.
My Mom (who has phenomenal taste in music, in my biased opinion) recommended Ludovico Einaudi to me a couple of weeks ago after catching his live performance on KCRW*. His songs move me in a similar fashion that Michael Andrews’ work on the Donnie Darko Soundtrack ( in this post) or Brad Mehldau’s Radiohead covers on piano do (read: my favorite movie score + piano covers of my favorite band = a lot.) It’s absolutely beautiful, chill-inducing at times, and borderline tear-jerking in others. I’ve been listening to it a ton this week, and I can tell that this is an album I’ll be listening to for the rest of my life.
*I highly recommend clicking the KCRW link, and perusing their live in-studio on Morning Becomes Eclectic performances. There is a ton of good stuff there (Grizzly Bear, Silversun Pickups, Local Natives, The xx, Spoon, etc.) It’s awesome.
