My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.
This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, the interwebs and whatever else I deem worthy of sharing.
In addition to my ramblings here, I write a weekly column for Getting Blanked called "The Battle Of Los Angeles" and a bi-weekly column for PureVolume called "Everything In Its Right Place".
I'm also the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my good friend Ian, called Productive Outs.
In the past, you may have read my column at OC Weekly called "3hree Things", which ran every Tuesday for a couple of years, my writing on the Los Angeles Angels and Lakers for SB Nation Los Angeles, my newsdesk contributions for several of SB Nation's regional sites, or my sporadic contributions to Flip Collective .
And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.
Disclaimer: The views and opinions presented on this blog are mine and mine only, and do not reflect the position or views of Thrice as a whole.

Random Start: Radiohead, “Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong”
In 1994, a collection of eight tracks (seven new, one acoustic version of “Creep”) became the My Iron Lung EP, while in 2011, eight new tracks The King Of Limbs full-length. Are we shifting to a less is more? Less is best?
Whether it should be considered a long EP or short full-length, My Iron Lung is one of my favorite collections of music by Radiohead and would rank ahead of a few of their full-lengths if I were to make a Favorite Releases By Radiohead list.
Buy My Iron Lung here. (The versions on Amazon and iTunes are the shortened, four-track version.)
Random Start: Jaydiohead, “Change Order”
The potential for disaster with mashups is high. Take two perfectly good (or great) artists, BLEND and hope you avoided creating a turd-filled audio smoothie.
Thankfully, this is not that.
Radiohead vs Dave Brubeck, “Five Step (Overdub Mashup)”
Holy crap. As someone who was raised on Dave Brubeck, and loves any and all things Radiohead, I think this freaking rules.

Not-So-Random Start: Radiohead, “Exit Music (For A Film)”
Fifteen years and a day after its release, this OK Computer still moves me just as much as it ever did. It (and Kid A) changed the way I thought about, listened to, wrote and played music. It’s inspiring and defeating all at once, showing what’s possible in music while reminding you that you’ll never get there.

Radiohead - Kid A (8-bit) [FULL ALBUM]
My favorite album of all time. Now, in 8-bit!
Like most 8-bit things, this is pretty cool for about five minutes before it gets kind of annoying. Nonetheless, it’s still an impressive piece of work, and I’d say it’s a must-listen for Radiohead fans.
Random Start: Radiohead, “Pyramid Song”
It’s a bit early for Random Start, but when your brain wakes up ahead of your body and busies itself thinking about the things you need to do that day, sometimes it’s better to drag your body out of bed and do those things.
Also: If this list had extended to fifteen songs instead of just ten eleven, “Pyramid Song” would be on it.
Random Start: Radiohead, “The National Anthem”
Based on my Twitter & Facebook feeds, I know four people who were at the Radiohead show in Austin last night. And as I saw pictures posted from the show I hated each and every one of them turned green with envy.
Kid A is my favorite record of all-time. Buy it here.
Random Start: Radiohead, “Creep” (Acoustic)
This version is a true testament to the beauty and power of this song. It’s stripped down to it’s simplest and purest form and it’s just as (if not more) powerful than the album version on Pablo Honey. The scary thing is that as moving as this song is, Radiohead is so damn good they’ve probably got ~20 songs I’d rather hear this way.
Buy the My Iron Lung EP here.
You can’t really go wrong with Radiohead on a rainy morning.
Buy the “Go To Sleep” (single) here. The song “Gagging Order” is an incredible b-side.
Take a look at the ad surrounding this video on YouTube, watch the advertising pre-roll courtesy of Vevo (mine was for a Britney Spears something or other), and have a heaping plate of irony with your morning coffee.
Radiohead released “Pop Is Dead” as a non-album single back in 1993.
You can buy it here.
