My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.
This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, the interwebs and whatever else I deem worthy of sharing.
In addition to my ramblings here, I write a weekly column for Getting Blanked called "The Battle Of Los Angeles" and a bi-weekly column for PureVolume called "Everything In Its Right Place".
I'm also the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my good friend Ian, called Productive Outs.
In the past, you may have read my column at OC Weekly called "3hree Things", which ran every Tuesday for a couple of years, my writing on the Los Angeles Angels and Lakers for SB Nation Los Angeles, my newsdesk contributions for several of SB Nation's regional sites, or my sporadic contributions to Flip Collective .
And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.
Disclaimer: The views and opinions presented on this blog are mine and mine only, and do not reflect the position or views of Thrice as a whole.

Random Start: Small Brown Bike, “Tragically Ending”
Welp, it looks like I’ll be listening to nothing but Small Brown Bike all day.
I love every single thing about this band (the chord progressions, phrasing, dynamics, tones, drumming, lyrics, passion, aesthetic or lack thereof, etc.) and cannot understand why they never seemed to get their just due in the punk/hardcore scene of the late-90s and early-00s. They were way too fucking good to be the kinda band I’d see at Koo’s Cafe (cap. ~100) back in the day.
Buy The River Bed and everything else this band has ever put out.
Small Brown Bike released Fell & Found last week, and after getting buried in a pile of new releases on the 12th, I finally had a chance sit down to listen to it this morning. The verdict: It’s outstanding. I’ve been a big Small Brown Bike fan since before we played a show with them at Koo’s Cafe in Santa Ana back in ‘99 (if memory serves me correctly… it could have been 2000.) Hearing this record after the band’s eight year hiatus is like reuniting with an old friend. It’s everything I’ve always loved about Small Brown Bike; anthemic choruses filled with great lyrics, energy, dynamics, great drumming, and dueling vocals.
Buy Fell & Found here.
