My name is Riley, and I play drums and write music for a band called Thrice.
This is where I ramble about music, sports, food, books, interwebbery, and whatever else I feel like sharing. I apologize in advance.
In addition to my ramblings here, I write a piece for OC Weekly called "3hree Things" that runs every Tuesday, and I'm also writing over at Flip Collective on occasion.
I'm the co-founder of a baseball-specific twitter feed and blog with my friend Ian, called Productive Outs.
And last, but not least, I have a bandcamp page and a soundcloud page that I'll be posting my own music and remixes on every once in a while.

Not-So-Random Start: Hot Water Music, “State of Grace”
Exister, Hot Water Music’s first LP of new tunes since 2004 is out today on Rise Records.
I can’t wait to spend the rest of the day/week/month/year/decade with this thing.
Baroness, “Take My Bones Away”
The first taste of Yellow & Green, due out July 17th on Relapse.
I cannot wait to hear the rest of this record.
I’m really digging the new Vacationer record, Gone. I stumbled across it while listening to the Sklarbro Country podcast, did a little research and found out (and was kinda blown away by the fact) that it was Kenny from The Starting Line’s (who we’d done a few Warped Tour’s with) new project. It’s been the perfect mellow buffer to my Meshuggah-heavy playlist of late, and is a great “Summer” record. It’s kinda stimulating my Local Natives receptors.

Welcome back, dudes. You’ve been missed.

Every Time I Die, “Drag King”
I just got my pre-order (deluxe CD, stencil, Jordan Buckley designed tee & beer coozy) in the mail, and damn…this record is a killer. It’s a little early to make this call, but I think it might be my favorite ETID record. Joe Baresi did a fantastic job on the production and engineering side, Keith Buckley’s lyrics are as stellar as ever, the riffs are outstanding, and “Legs” is an absolute beast on the drums. Good stuff, folks. Really good stuff.

Narrows, “TB Positive”
Holy crap. This new Narrows record is outstanding. Those of you who are familiar with my taste in music are probably well-aware of my undying love for Botch, and aside from getting a new Botch record, this is probably the best thing I could’ve hoped for. Dave Verellen has always had one of my favorite voices in heavy music, and he’s at the top of his game here.

The American Dollar | Awake In The City | Introduction Video
The American Dollar’s new record Awake In The City is slated for a March 24th release. You can hear the first single “Heavy Eyes Ignite” and pre-order the record here.
Admittedly, I’ve only known of these guys for a few months, but I’ve been listening to them a ton since I stumbled upon their work. If “Heavy Eyes Ignite” is any indication, we’re in for another outstanding release from The American Dollar.
If you like heavy, instrumental, mathy metal, you NEED this Loincloth record. If you want a detailed description of what you might hear when you buy it, please read Aaron Burgess’ excellent review at Altpress.com.
Big thanks to Matthew Taylor from Motion City Soundtrack for turning me onto what is one of the better heavy records I’ve heard in quite a while.
